Imposter Voice Attacks
GuideSocial EngineeringDeepfake
I have studied deepfake and impersonation attacks for years. In Web3, social engineering often starts with a trusted voice asking for an unusual transaction.
How the attack unfolds
A bad actor may call or voice-message a team member pretending to be a founder, auditor, or exchange representative. The initial ask is almost always framed as an urgent recovery or approval.
Recommended controls
I train teams to use a secondary verification channel before authorizing any payment or contract upgrade. That includes a dedicated approval chat and a strict call verification process.
My consulting tip
Run tabletop drills with the operations team so they recognize the emotional pressure and can respond with the same calm, disciplined workflow every time.
